What Is a Foot Health Practitioner?

A Foot Health Practitioner (FHP) provides everyday foot care to help keep your feet comfortable, clean, and healthy.

They are trained and insured to carry out a wide range of routine treatments.

An FHP can help with:

  • Nail trimming and shaping

  • Corn and callus removal

  • Ingrown toenails (non-surgical care)

  • Fungal nail problems

  • Routine diabetic foot checks

  • General foot health advice and monitoring

  • An FHP is ideal if you want regular maintenance, support with mobility, or friendly routine care at home.

What Is a Podiatrist?

A Podiatrist (also known as a Chiropodist) is a medically trained foot specialist who is HCPC-registered and able to diagnose and treat more complex foot conditions.

A Podiatrist can help with:

  • Diagnosing foot and lower-limb problems

  • Minor surgical procedures (e.g. nail surgery)

  • Advanced treatment for ingrown nails

  • High-risk diabetic foot care

  • Wound care and ulcer management

  • Prescribing certain medications

  • Biomechanical assessments and orthotics

You should see a podiatrist if you have a more serious or medical foot problem that requires advanced treatment.
